Khalifa University Admission Test Maths: Format, Topics and Original Practice

The Khalifa University admission test Maths component is currently described by the university as a 90-minute, computer-based assessment with 40 four-option multiple-choice questions. KU’s current Mathematics breakdown is 30% algebra, 60% precalculus and 10% geometry. Those proportions matter: they tell a candidate how to organise study time instead of revising every high-school topic equally. This independent guide explains the format, offers original practice questions and provides a readiness plan based on official information.

Khalifa University admission test Maths: current format
The Khalifa University undergraduate admissions page provides the Mathematics admission-test overview. It lists 40 questions in 90 minutes, computer-based, with one correct answer among four options. It specifies a Casio FX-82ES Plus (2nd Edition) calculator provided in the hall. Do not arrive assuming your own preferred graphical calculator is permitted.
KU also states that shortlisting and possible exemptions depend on the applicant’s academic evidence. Taking the test is not a guarantee of admission, and doing well does not automatically exempt an admitted student from university Maths courses.
Turn the published weighting into a study plan
| Official content area | Published weighting | Approximate question share* | Suggested diagnostic emphasis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Algebra | 30% | About 12 | Linear/quadratic equations, exponents, radicals |
| Precalculus | 60% | About 24 | Functions, graphs, logarithms, trigonometry |
| Geometry | 10% | About 4 | Triangles, circles, polygon reasoning |
*Question shares are illustrative estimates calculated from a 40-question test. The actual test can vary within the university’s assessment framework. These numbers are not promised question counts.
Algebra: three errors that cost avoidable marks
Error 1: expanding a negative sign incorrectly. Solve 4-2(x-3)=10. Expanding gives 4-2x+6=10, then -2x=0, so x=0. A student who writes -2x-6 changes the equation and may choose a plausible but wrong multiple-choice option.
Error 2: rejecting or overlooking a quadratic root. For x^2-5x+6=0, factor (x-2)(x-3)=0. Both x=2 and x=3 solve the equation. If a question asks for all real solutions, choosing only one is incomplete.
Error 3: ignoring restrictions. For (x+2)/(x-1)=3, first state x≠1, then solve x+2=3x-3, giving x=5/2, which is allowed. An apparent solution at a forbidden denominator value must be rejected.
Precalculus: the highest-yield area
Khalifa University’s content summary lists functions and their graphs, polynomial/rational/radical functions, exponentials and logarithms, and trigonometric functions and applications.
Functions: learn to read what a graph says
Suppose f(x)=x^2-4x+1. Complete the square: f(x)=(x-2)^2-3. The vertex is (2, −3); the parabola opens upward and has a minimum value of −3. This provides more information than a graphing-calculator screenshot: it explains location and shape algebraically.
Logarithms: connect the inverse relationship
If 2^x=16, then x=4. If log_2 16=x, the same answer follows. A common error is to treat the log base as a number being multiplied rather than the base of the inverse exponential operation. Work with exact simple powers before tackling complex logs.
Trigonometry: test the meaning, not only the formula
In a right triangle with opposite side 6 and hypotenuse 10, sin θ = 6/10 = 0.6. A student should recognise when inverse trigonometry is required to find an angle rather than applying sine to the answer options blindly.
Geometry: smaller share, still valuable
KU lists triangles, polygons and circles. For an illustrative geometry question, the interior angles of a triangle total 180°. If two angles are 38° and 67°, the third is 75°. For a circle of radius 5, circumference is 10π and area is 25π; confusing the two formulas is a common multiple-choice trap.
Practise geometry consistently even though the weighting is smaller. Strong candidates should not casually surrender straightforward marks in the final 10% of a syllabus.
A 14-day practice timetable for KUAT Maths
| Days | Focus | Daily output |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Diagnostic + algebra foundations | 20 mixed problems, error log |
| 3–4 | Quadratics, functions and graphs | Explain graphs from equations |
| 5–7 | Exponentials, logarithms and rational functions | Timed 15-question sets |
| 8–9 | Trigonometry and applications | Mixed angles and functions |
| 10 | Triangles, polygons, circles | Geometry review and formulas |
| 11–12 | Full mixed 40-question mock | Timing and error classification |
| 13 | Revisit weakest topics only | New questions, no answer copying |
| 14 | Light review and logistics | Sleep, calculator rule, venue check |
Time-budget example: 90 minutes divided by 40 questions is 2 minutes 15 seconds per question on average. That does not mean every question deserves exactly that time. Solve quick algebra items efficiently, flag difficult ones and return if the assessment interface allows review.
Does every Khalifa University applicant take KUAT?
KU currently says shortlisted applicants may be required to sit admission tests and that outstanding academic performance may support exemptions. The exact requirements depend on programme, curriculum and the university’s latest instructions. Fall 2026 admission is closed, and the current undergraduate admissions page states that Fall 2027 dates will be published later. Do not copy a 2026 application deadline into a 2027 application.
Applicants interested in engineering should review the programme’s Maths and science prerequisites, not only a test-prep guide. MYT provides Maths tutors in Abu Dhabi, A Level Maths support and focused Physics tutoring where relevant.
Exam-day and preparation checklist
Read the invitation carefully for the campus, identification and permitted material. Practise with a non-graphical calculator if one is allowed by the university’s current rules. Use KU’s own sample questions when available. For any unofficial mock, label it as independent practice, because no tutoring provider can guarantee a match with the actual KUAT.
Students who want to talk through their diagnostic errors can arrange a free 30-minute MYT Maths demo. We teach academic methods and problem-solving, not privileged exam questions or admission shortcuts.
Frequently asked questions
How many questions are on the Khalifa University Maths admission test?
KU currently lists 40 four-option multiple-choice questions in a 90-minute computer-based test.
Which KUAT Maths topics carry the most weight?
The current published guide assigns 60% to precalculus, 30% to algebra and 10% to geometry.
Does the test include calculus?
The current Maths topic distribution emphasises algebra, precalculus and geometry. Consult KU’s live syllabus rather than relying on older test descriptions, which may differ.
Is the Khalifa University Fall 2027 application deadline published?
The official undergraduate admissions page consulted says the Fall 2027 timeline is to be announced. Do not reuse the 2026 deadline.
Are the practice questions in this article official KUAT questions?
No. The examples are independently written by MYT to practise mathematical reasoning, not copied official KU questions.
Want help with the academic side?
MYT offers 1-to-1 online tutoring for Abu Dhabi students. A free 30-minute demo can help identify a practical starting point; admission and exam registrations remain with the relevant institutions.
